La Habana's Fortresses

The four fortresses essentially guard the narrow entrance to La Habana's harbor. Castillo Morro and Castillo Cabaña are on the eastern side, while Castillo Punta and Castillo Fuerza are on the western side.

Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro

Situated directly on the eastern side of the harbor entrance, its landmark is a lighthouse that is widely visible, especially from the Malecón promenade. At night, they used to hoist an iron chain between Castillo Morro and Castillo Punta on the other side of the harbor entrance to protect the harbor from the pirats.
